Education.

Michael Fey grew up in San Gabriel and attended high school in Pasadena, California at La Salle College Preparatory High School. He came to the Inland Empire for college, attending the University of La Verne to gain his Bachelor of Science degree in 2011, and immediately decided to pursue his higher education by attending the University of La Verne, School of Law for his juris doctorate. Michael was able to graduate both in undergrad and in law school with recognized honors, in addition to earning the highest particular grades in certain law classes through his time of attendance.

Michael made the decision during his undergraduate degree to pursue his law degree after much thought and through life adversity. His commitment to pursuing his law degree was unhindered despite multiple life challenges during that time, including the tragic loss of his mother during the final year of his undergraduate degree when studying for the examination to get into law school and through his senior thesis. The tragic loss helped assure Michael that despite adversity, he could overcome the difficult nature of times and prevail and knew that he would be able to carry this into his life, both personally and professionally to help all clients under his care.

While attending law school, Michael was the first student at La Verne Law to volunteer and work in both the Disability Legal Aid Clinic, which protected disabled children’s rights, and the Immigration Clinic, which involved representing a client seeking asylum in the United States for which his client was successful in obtaining asylum through his and his partners’ dedication and hard work. Helping people through these clinics only reinforced Michael’s belief in the law and helped hone his skills in client communication, even in delicate situations. Through all of this work, Michael was able to graduate Cum Laude from law school, while at the same time interning at a local law firm to obtain practical experience which included a majority of work in family law.

Experience.

Michael is well-versed in Family Law, having interned for over a year prior to being admitted to the bar and continuing in that field thereafter. Michael has also practiced Bankruptcy, Civil Litigation, Unlawful Detainers, and Criminal Law, which has improved his own practice and experience in diverse matters. Michael is dedicated to each and every client’s case and works to obtain the best resolution possible with an emphasis on settlement negotiations in an attempt to gain the best outcome for the client, while also being financially conscious of keeping costs down for the client.

When handling any type of case, Michael first looks towards an amicable resolution of any and all issues prior to advancing the case towards litigation or juridical involvement. An amicable approach is not only cost-effective for clients, but also it avoids additional emotional stress and fear most people have with appearing in court on a contested matter. However, if the case cannot proceed amicably, Michael will take any aggressive approach he needs to advance his client’s interest and obtain a resolution of the issue through not only the use of the law but also different techniques he has learned and acquired during his years of dealing in family law and divorce. Michael continues his dedication to the legal field particularly the area of family law by regularly attending continuing legal education courses solely focused on family law issues and attending seminars with local judges and successful attorneys in the family law area to keep abreast on the most changes, law, and techniques to help promote his client’s agendas.

Michael has continued to be involved in the local and surrounding communities by giving back through previous volunteer work for the Youth Justice Court through San Bernardino School District for alternative resolutions for troubled children for 2 years. He has volunteered in the City of La Verne schools, talking to children about the legal field to expose them to the opportunity and potential to seek a legal career one day if they should choose. Previously, Michael has also volunteered at the Pomona Courthouse Self-Help Center providing free legal aid to those in need, and being employed at the Montebello Courthouse for a summer in the traffic division.

Personal Values.

Michael holds his family as a top priority, not only his wife and his three children, but also his extended family who are scattered through the local San Gabriel, San Bernardino, and Orange County areas. Michael enjoys being involved with his children through attending practices, horse riding lessons, and daily education and learning. He enjoys hiking in his local area with family and friends, golfing when the opportunity presents itself, the shooting range, and attending classic car events and shows.

Michael says he will never forget that at an early age, particularly during his 6th-grade class, his teacher classified him as “argumentative” (although he barely understood what that truly meant at that time of his life) and classified him that he would one day make a great lawyer. Michael attempts to make his clients and family proud by being the best attorney he can be while providing clients honesty through hard times and empathy.
